As early as during his law studies, Matthias was able to gain initial and in-depth M&A experience in international transactions and restructuring processes. After graduating, he continued along this path, working for Fiedler & Forster, Bongen, Renaud & Partner law firm, subsequently for Feddersen Laule Scherzberg, Ohle Hansen Ewerwahn Finkelnburg Clemm law, then White & Case LLP.

As of the founding of Saxenhammer, Matthias has had the opportunity to work on a large number of transactions, initially as a client. Matthias then joined Saxenhammer as a partner in 2012 and played a significant role in building up the firm until 2019. In 2020-2021, Matthias took over the management of Distressed M&A in Frankfurt as a partner for KPMG Germany.

Today, Matthias Grau has advised on more than 100 M&A transactions in all major industries in Germany. He has particular expertise in cross-border distressed M&A transactions, esp. with Chinese and Japanese investors.

Germany has the largest advertising revenues in Europe - next to the UK. In 2020, the industry generated a market volume of around EUR 46 bn, which corresponds to a share of GDP of about 1.3%. Around 900 k people are employed in the media and advertising industry in Germany. The media industry includes all companies involved in the development, production and distribution of media content for information and entertainment purposes.
